Health effects of vinyl chloride monomer: an annotated literature collection.
To assess the relation between oral contraceptive (OC) use and breast cancer, we analysed data from a case-control study conducted in Northern Italy between 1983 and 1991 on 2,309 cases below age 60 and 1,928 controls admitted to hospital for acute diseases unrelated to OC use and to any of the known or potential risk factors for breast cancer.
متن کاملResults of sputum, cytology among workers exposed to vinyl chloride monomer and to poly(vinyl chloride).
The results of systematic cytological sputum examinations of 3,380 Italian VC-PVC industry workers and of 2,287 workers in other industries at different potential risk and chosen as control groups are reported. The results indicate an increase in cellular abnormalities and dysplasias in the epithelium of the respiratory tract among VC-PVC workers. These data are in line with experimental result...
متن کاملCarcinogenicity bioassays of vinyl chloride monomer: a model of risk assessment on an experimental basis.
Data are presented regarding the final results of the Bentivoglio (Bologna) project on long-term carcinogenicity bioassays of vinyl chloride (VC). The experimental project studied the effects of the monomer, administered by different routes, concentrations and schedules of treatment, to animals (near 7000) of different species, strains, sex and age. To our knowledge this is the largest experime...

were compared with each other regarding histological grade and immunoreactivity for p53 protein, neuron specific enolase and c-erbB-2 protein. Significantly more specimens expressed a high malignancy grade when the tumour had become hormone resistant than at the time of initial diagnosis (Gleason P:<0.0001, WHO P:0.0003). p53 protein immunoreactivity increased significantly with disease progres...
متن کاملUrinary thiodiglycolic acid levels for vinyl chloride monomer-exposed polyvinyl chloride workers.
Thiodiglycolic acid (TdGA) is the major metabolite of vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) detected in human urine. Although urinary TdGA has been reported to be associated with ambient VCM exposure, the relationship between urinary TdGA and a low level of air VCM is not clear. Questionnaires were administered to 16 polyvinyl chloride manufacturing workers to obtain a detailed history of occupation and...
